Privacy Policy
This policy explains what PinCoup collects, why, and what you can do about it. We have tried to write it in plain English rather than legal boilerplate.
What we collect
Information you give us. If you email us, we keep your message and your email address so we can reply.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our servers record standard log data: IP address, browser type, referring page, and the pages you view. We use this to keep the site running and to detect abuse.
We never ask for payment details, because we never sell you anything. Purchases happen on the retailer's site under the retailer's own privacy policy.
If you create an account
An account is optional. You can browse the whole site without one. If you do sign up we store:
- Your name, username, and email address. The name and username appear on your public profile. Your email address does not.
- Your password, stored only as a one-way hash. We cannot read it and neither can anyone who obtains the database.
- Your profile photo and bio, if you add them. Both are public.
- Anything else you choose to add to your profile: a website, links to your social accounts, a phone number, a street address, a postcode, a city, a country. Every one of these is optional, and every one of them is public once you save it. Leave a field empty and it does not appear at all. We never ask for any of them and you can clear them at any time.
- Your boards, the pins you save, the notes you attach to them, and who you follow. Public boards are visible to anyone, including people who are not signed in. Private boards are visible only to you. Notes on a saved pin are always private to you.
- The pins you post, including the images you upload.
- When you last used the site, so your profile can show that you are active.
Anything you mark public is public. Treat a public board the way you would treat anything else you post on the open internet.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account yourself at any time from your settings page. That permanently removes your profile, your boards, your saved pins and the notes on them, the pins you posted, and the images you uploaded. It cannot be undone. Deals that came from retailer feeds are not yours and stay on the site for everyone else. Copies may survive for a short time in ordinary backups before those rotate out.
Cookies and similar technology
We use cookies for basic site function. Third parties we work with may also set cookies:
- Affiliate networks. When you click through to a retailer, the network sets a cookie so the retailer knows the visit came from us and can pay the commission. This is how the site is funded.
- Advertising. If we run display advertising, the ad provider may use cookies to select and measure ads.
- Analytics. We may use analytics to understand which pages are useful.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking them will not stop you from using PinCoup, though some links may stop crediting us.
Advertising and Google
If Google is serving ads on this site, Google may use cookies, including the DoubleClick cookie, to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third party vendor cookies at aboutads.info.
How we use the data
To operate and secure the site, to run your account and show your boards to the people you shared them with, to review pins before they reach the public feed, to measure which content is useful, to receive affiliate commission for referred purchases, and to answer messages you send us. We do not sell personal information.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it. This includes residents of the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom under the GDPR, and residents of California under the CCPA and CPRA. To exercise any of these rights, contact us and we will respond within the time frame required by the applicable law.
Data retention
Server logs are kept for a limited operational period and then discarded. Email correspondence is kept as long as needed to handle the matter it relates to. Account data is kept until you delete the account, after which it goes for good apart from short-lived backup copies.
Children
PinCoup is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
International visitors
Our servers are located in Europe. If you visit from another country, your data will be processed where our servers and service providers operate.
Changes to this policy
We will update the date at the top of this page when the policy changes.
